Evaluation Process Picking Great Condition Over 50 years Vintage Watch

1971 (over 50 years) vintage 1601 could be of great condition

A judge at one sight (JAOS) beauty

 

Having finished 15 free blog, readers should acquire adequate skills in watch evaluation. It's time for actual practice to pick quality items. This blog show the process I used in screening a watch. It helps me in deciding buying or not!

 

Step 1: Check the overall condition, see if it is a JAOS beauty

Check the front, back, left and right sides

If possible, better to check under natural light

If the feeling is good, continue to examine the watch

 

Step 2: Check the watch head and details of the dial

Check from various angles the upper portion of the dial

Note the crown at 00:00 and words on upper portion

Dial and hands matching? Lum dots intact?

Note the angles of the fluted bezel. Sharp?

Check the lower half of the dial.

Check the words on lower portion the

The bottom words "T SWISS T" are intact

Note the lum dots of photo 13: perfect half ball shape

Lum dots are of sponge nature, natural yellowish /aging

Check whether the cover is original

Note the light reflection of the bezel: very good angle

Rotate the watch one round

check if the light reflection is bright and sharp

Step 3: Check the condition of the 4 watch legs

Check the lower left leg: length, width and angles

note the width and braised lines of the leg surface

check the shape of the case side hole: a circle or a funnel?

Check the light reflection of the case side

Repeat the steps of checking the lower left leg

Step 4: Check the band condition

How the band and the head connected: tight?

Check the space between links

Check the crown logo on buckle

Step 5: Check the marks between the lugs and the movement

The above is the process of checking a watch thoroughly. Check each photo and grade it yourself. This practice is good for beginners.
