If the side case was unpolished ==> the case hole should be a perfect circle. Then, the light reflection line (LRL) will follow the dashed line. It will pass through the hole and reach the tip end of the watch leg.

Once polished, the egde of the hole collapsed and became a funnel shape. The light reflection line will be deformed to follow the red arc line of photo 1.

The more deformed LRL, the greater the degree of polishing.

This watch case is in excellent condition. The LRL is barely deformed. We could see the LRL extend to the tip end through the case hole.

A near perfect circle ==> not polished ==> LRL pass through the hole to end of the watch leg. Excellent condition.
